A federal judge’s ruling Wednesday putting the most controversial provisions of SB 1070 on hold may have been the worst thing that could have happened to Democratic candidates as the election season officially begins today with early voting.

U.S Sen. John McCain on Thursday will announce his endorsement of former state lawmaker Jim Waring for the Republican nomination in Arizona's 3rd Congressional District.

The nod gives Waring a boost in the highly competitive GOP primary as early balloting begins today.

Attorney General Terry Goddard was quick to respond to Wednesday morning’s federal court ruling that effectively neuters the state’s immigration law, blasting Gov. Jan Brewer for "playing politics with immigration."

U.S. Judge Susan Bolton has blocked the most controversial provisions of the law from taking effect, pending a full trial on the matter.

“Jan Brewer played politics with immigration, and she lost,” Goddard, the Democratic candidate for governor, said in a statement.
